Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an extension of Montessori education that focuses on the spiritual being of the child. True respect for the child is only possible when we have respect for God in the child.
Maria Montessori recognized that every child has the capacity to enter into a personal relationship with God and has the capacity to love unconditionally. Children hear the Word of God in scripture and work with materials that encourage concentration and contemplation; They come to know on their own that Jesus is the Good Shepherd and we are His sheep; that Jesus is the light of the world, and that we all have a blank page is the story of salvation.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd takes place in an area called the Atrium. Our Atrium, located in our school, encourages children to make the connection between their spiritual life and everyday life activities. Children here know that God is always very close and that all of creation is a gift from Him for us.
We offer a Level I and Level II program to our preschool through 2nd grade during the school day.
We also are pleased to invite others to the Atrium at these special times:
3 -5 year old morning program - Wednesdays at 9:00-10:00
1st Communion preparation program - Wednesdays 3:00-4:00
(This weekly program is offered in collaboration with your home parish using the parish materials in addition to the Atrium lessons. 1st communion takes place in your home parish.")
To register for these programs, please call our main office at 315-283-0555.
